Blender. Free open-source 3D application. I'm not tops with 2D (as you saw, Sig :P ), so I go 3D as it has the easiest workflow for my mind.
The normal site's in my sig, but someone hacked the server. You could try torrents from [link] if you're interested. :D

I may be the only one that voted for Photoshop, but does not have it on their desktop computer! I chosen that because everyone else is using it, and I have just started learning to do stuff on it again.
The one I use at home is Paint.

Photoshop 6, Opencanvas, PaintBBS, Shipainter, occassionally MSPaint..Paint Shop Pro 3.1 :o

..and even though I've got all these (and do love them), I want Painter. =( My friend has Painter and doesn't even use it. Agh.

MSPaint, beetches! It's simple, yet fun. I also use PaintBBS cause of those watercolors, tones and junk. I use PSP as well, but not often. Photoshop... I only use it to make backgrounds, really.

...don't look at me, that way! Most of my digital art is done on MSPaint. o.O

My primary tool would be Inkscape, it's definitely what I use the most. I'm a big vector person, and am happy I can get my tool for free (and I'm even doing some programming for it now too).

On my "secondary" too list, I use GIMP for raster stuff or photo editing. I use ArtRage for my natural media stuff. I use Blender for my 3D. I use Apophysis for my fractal flame stuff.

And on my "occasional" use list, I use ChaosPro for my regular fractal stuff. I use Terragen for any terrain or scenery.

A few are open source, a few are freeware... either way they're all legit free and and that in itself makes these tools more appealing to me.

I choose "OTHER" because I used before Open Canvas,a great software in fact, however I couldn't use it because I introduced the passwords but after 30 days the license finished and I couldn't save any of my works, happily I finished them before the license finished.Nowadays I'm using "The GIMP" ,which is a very good software because is completely like Photoshop, but for free!It has some unstability yet,but it'll be fixed with each new version,I'm very happy that there were a program like this one and for free, sincerely.

photoshop, it's the only one I can work with. I had paint shop pro, but it was way too confusing and to learn to handle the program (like I do photoshop) will take way to long. I'll stick with photoshop.

If you're just cheap, check out the GIMP... it's free and does pretty close to all of what Photoshop can do.

NOTE: You'll need to install both GTK+ & GIMP from that link (also the help and animation packages if you so desire), installing GTK+ first.

I use Flash for Lineart to get it nice and smooth. I also use that for colouring, but I also use Paint Shop Pro 9 for colouring too sometimes, as well as photomanipulation. I use Animation Shop Pro 3 for Animation, as well as MSPaint for simple drawings.

Ultra Fractal 3, followed by Photoshop CS and Paint Shop Pro. Somewhere in there would be Premeire as well, but thats for videos. There are several others that I use here and there too. I hear Illustrator CS is great too, but I cant really do hand-drawn art at all thanx to my bad wrist.

You can get GIMP for free, which is a lot like photoshop (and significantly better than MS Paint). You can go here and download GTK+ & The GIMP (and the help and animation packages too if you're interested). Make sure you install GTK+ first, then GIMP.

And if you're interested in something like Illustrator check out Inkscape... Inkscape rules! ;) And with inkscape we have a community here right on dA... *Inkscapers

Oh, and if interested in something like Painter, check out ArtRage. It's not exactly the same as Painter, but it's a "natural media" tool.

All 3 are free and legit. GIMP & Inkscape are Open Source, and ArtRage is Freeware.

Enjoy! =D

As I has recommended to someone else in the poll, you should check out ArtRage. It's not exactly the same as Painter, but it's a "natural media" tool. And definitely different than how Photoshop works (you can mix paints on canvas like in real life).

ArtRage is Freeware, so it's legit.

Enjoy! =D
